Albark Kennels

Albark Kennels is a family-run kennel on a Garrett County farm, founded by Alton and Barbara Kauffman, raising Golden Retriever, Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle puppies. The farm's address is shared on request, and families meet their puppy by appointment or arrange delivery.

A Family Operation

The name comes from the founders themselves: "Al," "Bar" and "K." Alton oversees the breeding program and daily care, while Barbara handles communications, scheduling, records and microchip registration. Their children help run the nursery barn, take the puppy photos, clean kennels, feed and bathe the dogs, and assist with vet checks, and the grandchildren join in socializing puppies when they visit. The kennel has been breeding for more than 20 years and says it is licensed and inspected by the county.

How the Puppies Are Raised

Albark breeds Golden Retrievers, F1 and F1B Goldendoodles, and Bernedoodles. The kennel states that all parent dogs are Embark DNA tested and that puppies are vet-checked. Puppies are raised on the farm and handled by the family's children from birth, and litters go on morning walks for exercise and early obedience. Each puppy goes home at around eight weeks old with a health record of its vaccinations and deworming and a microchip. The kennel publishes its vaccination schedule, deposit and reservation policy, and a written health guarantee on its website.

Visiting and Pickup

Visits are by appointment, and pickup happens at the farm. The kennel also offers delivery to several meeting points in Maryland, Virginia and beyond, home delivery, and a flight-nanny option.
