About

Allegany County, the Mountain Side of Maryland, is the official destination marketing organization for Allegany County, Maryland. The tourism office is based in Cumberland and runs the mdmountainside.com visitor site, a visitor guide, an e-newsletter and an events calendar where local events can be submitted.

The county has nearly 70,000 acres of public land, with one of every four acres open for public access. The office's trail pages cover the Great Allegheny Passage, the C&O Canal Towpath, the Great Eastern Trail, the Paw Paw Tunnel Hill Trail, the Lakeside Loop and Canyon Overlook trails, and the mountain biking trails at Constitution Park. Its history pages cover the George Washington 1753 Trail and the Mountain Maryland, Historic National Road and C&O Canal West scenic byways.

The site also lists places to stay, places to eat and drink, arts and culture, and the trail towns of downtown Cumberland and downtown Frostburg. It runs themed food and drink trails, including the Donut & Coffee Trail, the Mountain Maryland Tap and Pour Tour, the Ice Cream Trail and the Orange Crush Trail. Meeting planners, wedding and group organizers, and local partners each have their own section of the site.

The office's stated mission is to fuel the local economy by connecting visitors to the county's trails, towns and natural beauty, and by building partnerships that strengthen the community.
