About
Allegany Driving School is a Maryland driver education school that serves Western Maryland, including Garrett County, with online classroom courses and behind-the-wheel lessons. The school's office is in Hagerstown, and Oakland-area students take the classroom portion online and sign up for in-car instruction through the school's Garrett County form.
Courses Offered
- Driver Education: the classroom portion, taught online over Zoom on a published course schedule and following the Maryland Driver Education Curriculum required for new drivers
- In-Car Lessons: six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, scheduled once a student holds a learner's permit
- Driver Improvement Program: an online course for licensed drivers
Online Driver Education and the Driver Improvement Program are offered to students in Allegany, Washington, Frederick and Garrett counties.
How Garrett County Students Sign Up
After finishing the classroom course, Garrett County students fill out the school's in-car sign-up form with their learner's permit number, which the school uses to report completion to the MVA. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian signature. The school then contacts students with permits to schedule their six hours of driving. You'll want your permit and completed classroom paperwork in hand before you submit the form, and students have one year from their course start date to finish.
The school does not publish a Garrett County classroom or pickup address, so call ahead to confirm where your in-car lessons will start.
