About

Alpaca Acres Farm and Fun is a family-run working alpaca farm at 1557 Sanders Lane, Oakland, MD 21550, in the mountains of Western Maryland near Deep Creek Lake. It pairs time with the herd with a farmyard full of outdoor games, slides and rides, so it suits families with young kids, school groups and birthday parties.

From Fiber Farm to Family Fun

The Hott family's farm started out as Alpaca Acres Farm and Fiber, offering alpaca visits and educational tours, and it is still a working alpaca farm that welcomes new crias. In its second season it added events and attractions, along with a partnership with Spookley the Square Pumpkin, the official spokes-pumpkin for National Bullying Prevention. The farm store carries alpaca-fiber products, alpaca novelty items, rustic décor and gifts, and the Farmyard Food Truck serves burgers and sweets.

Things To Do on the Farm

  • Alpaca visits, with coin-operated feeders of approved grain (quarters only)
  • Big Al's Mountain Slide, Moose's Mini Slides and the Alpaca Express barrel train
  • Buttercup's Climbing Wall, Charlie's Tire Climb and Maverik's Jump Pad (bring socks)
  • Gaga ball, giant slingshots, duck races, tug-o-war and the Barnyard Ball Zone
  • Reserved campfires with benches and a firewood bundle

Each fall, Fall Fest adds a pumpkin patch, Spookley's Storybook Trail and a themed corn maze with easy and challenging maps you open by QR code. The theme changes every year: 2024's maze was a Peanuts design made with The MAiZE, and 2026's was Dolly Parton–themed in support of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Look for the farm's cider donuts and apple cider slushies.

Before You Go

Every visitor needs a ticket, even if you're only watching, and visits are timed entry, so buy ahead online and arrive together. Pets aren't allowed on the farm, and outside food, picnics and alcohol stay in the car. The walk to the alpacas goes down a grassy hill and the maze can be muddy, so wear sturdy shoes. There are portable toilets and outdoor handwashing sinks rather than indoor restrooms, and the farm closes in unsafe weather.

The farm is seasonal, so check the website or Facebook for the next open dates before you head out.
