Archie's BBQ

Archie's BBQ is a family-owned barbecue restaurant at 25259 Garrett Hwy in McHenry, run by the Archer family since 2007. It smokes its meats and serves them with its own barbecue sauces, alongside homemade sides, and it stays open year round. It's a practical stop for lake visitors and locals alike, with indoor dining, pet-friendly outdoor seating and a drive-thru window.

From the Smoker

The menu is organized around sandwiches, smoked meat plates, ribs by the quarter, half or full rack, and smoked jumbo wings in flavors from sweet and spicy barbecue to Old Bay, bourbon and garlic parm. Specialty items include The Kev Kev, the Piggy Plate, the Squealin' Rib Sandwich, a Pittsburgh Sandwich, a smoked half chicken and cornbread sliders.

Sides include smoked mac 'n' cheese, meaty baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, fresh-cut green beans and brisket gravy fries, and desserts run to banana pudding and Reese's peanut butter pie. There are kids' meals too. Archie's states that all of its meats and sauces are gluten-free, which is useful to know if you're ordering for someone who avoids gluten. You can also take home bulk meats, family packs and bottles of Archie's Signature BBQ Sauce.

Catering and Pickup

Archie's caters family gatherings, business lunches, holiday parties, rehearsal dinners, weddings and corporate events, with full-service options that include delivery, buffet setup and staff, and it takes its barbecue on the road with a mobile smoker. Catering menus add sides such as potato salad, mashed potatoes and white sweet corn, plus a vegetarian lasagna. For quick meals you can order online, call ahead for curbside pickup or use the drive-thru.

If you're feeding a full house of guests for the weekend, the family packs make dinner simple.
