Backbone Mt Sport Shop

Backbone Mt Sport Shop is a family-run hunting, fishing and shooting-sports store on 4768 George Washington Hwy outside Oakland. It has served Garrett County hunters and anglers since 1988, and it's a practical one-stop shop when you need firearms, archery gear, bait or boots before heading into the woods or onto the water.

What You'll Find on the Shelves

The shop's business listing describes a broad mix of field gear under one roof:

• Firearms, ammunition and accessories
• Archery equipment, with bow brands listed including Mathews, Alpine and Parker
• Reloading supplies, including RCBS
• Fishing tackle and bait
• Boots, including Red Wing
• Gun safes

Federal firearms licence records list a pawnbroker licence at this address, so firearm purchases and transfers here go through the usual federal background-check paperwork. If you're picking up a gun bought online or from a private seller, call ahead to confirm the shop will handle your transfer.

An Archery Pro Shop for Bow Season

Backbone Mt's archery pro shop sets up and tunes bows and crossbows of any brand, not only the ones sold in the store. That's useful if you've bought a new bow, changed draw weight or arrows, or just want your rig checked before Maryland's archery deer season opens, since a properly tuned bow shoots more consistently and more ethically.

A Local Business Since 1988

The shop was founded in 1988 as a family business and has stayed on George Washington Highway (Route 135) west of Oakland ever since. There's a free parking lot and the store is wheelchair accessible.

Give the shop a call before you drive out if you're after a specific bow, safe or reloading component, so they can check stock for you.
