Backbone Tavern

Backbone Tavern is a bar and grill at 4676 George Washington Hwy, at the top of Backbone Mountain south of Oakland. It's a casual, rustic spot for wings, pub food and a drink, and families, couples and groups all make the drive.

Wings and Tavern Food

Wings are what most people come for, with a choice of sauces and wing nights that draw a local crowd. The kitchen also turns out cheesesteaks, pizza, fried pickles, salads and other appetizers, and there's a kids' menu. Food is cooked to order in a small kitchen, so it pays to settle in and not be in a rush.

The full bar sits in a cozy tavern room with limited indoor seating, and there's outdoor seating as well. Guests have described an outdoor bar, a fire pit and an outdoor stage that hosts live music and DJ nights, which makes the tavern a gathering spot in the warmer months. There's an on-site parking lot.

Before You Go

Indoor seating is limited, so arriving early or calling ahead is a good idea, especially on wing nights or when there's music on.
