A Town With Methodist Roots
Mountain Lake Park itself grew out of Methodist vision. The town was founded in 1881 by a group of Methodist ministers and businessmen as one of the country's earliest Chautauqua resorts, and it still celebrates that history each summer with its Victorian Chautauqua weekend. Bethel's Baltimore Avenue setting puts it in the heart of that historic town.
