Black Bear Tavern and Restaurant

Black Bear Tavern and Restaurant is a restaurant, sports bar and nightclub at 102 Fort Dr in McHenry, in the middle of the Deep Creek Lake area. Families come for a meal earlier on, and later the place turns into a bar and club with music and dancing, which makes it a natural stop after a day on the slopes or the water.

Food, Drinks and Game Day

The kitchen serves a classic bar menu of American food, and local guides single out The BBT Burger as the dish to try. Kids have their own "Bear Cub Grub" menu. There's a wide selection of draft beers and ready-to-drink options, TVs for following the game, and outdoor seating on the deck.

Live Music and Nightlife

After dark, the Bear is one of the lake's longtime nightlife spots. The entertainment lineup includes karaoke nights, live bands, DJs, acoustic sets, late-night club nights and mechanical bull nights. Follow the tavern's Facebook page to see what's on before you head over.

New Owners, Same Gathering Place

Since May 2026 the tavern has been run by Black Bear Partners, a local group made up of Warren and Barb Porter, Mark and Mollie Cicacci, and Nick Senella, who all have long ties to Deep Creek Lake. They have credited the Clapsaddle family for years of stewardship, kept the existing staff on, and said they plan to share menu updates and other improvements as they go.
