Black Hawk Coffee + Kitchen

Black Hawk Coffee + Kitchen is a coffee shop and café at 1550 Deep Creek Drive in McHenry, at The Fort, serving coffee, lattes, breakfast sandwiches and lunch. It's the lake-area expansion of Black Hawk Coffee Company in downtown Oakland, and it's a comfortable place to start a lake day or take a break from one.

Coffee, Breakfast and Lunch

The counter covers espresso drinks and lattes, breakfast sandwiches and a lunch menu of sandwiches and lighter plates. Railey's Deep Creek dining guide singles out the turkey focaccia sandwich as one to try. Guests have also mentioned seasonal-style lattes such as an oatmeal latte and an iced banana bread latte, a Smokey Joe breakfast sandwich, avocado toast, a chicken salad sandwich, a BLT and tomato soup, so expect a mix of hearty breakfast and simple lunch fare.

Room to Sit and a View of the Lake

There's a spacious indoor dining area, plus an outdoor deck that looks out over Deep Creek Lake. That makes it as good for a slow coffee with the view as for a quick stop on the way to the water.

The Oakland Original

If you're heading into town, the original shop, Black Hawk Coffee Company, is at 225 East Oak Street in downtown Oakland and has a drive-thru. The McHenry café has also served as the kickoff stop for the For the Love of Deep Creek coffee crawl, which links coffee shops around the lake.
