About
Brenda's Body Shop is a dance and gymnastics studio for children and teens at 111 Weber Road in Oakland. It runs everything from toddler movement classes to advanced tumbling, baton and a travelling performance group. It also teaches classes at Accident Elementary, so families in the north end of the county have an option closer to home.
Classes Offered
Classes are grouped by school grade and skill, so children move up as they progress:
- Preschool: Move & Groove for ages 18 months to about 3, with a parent or caregiver taking part, and KinderMoves and Kinderkicks for preschool through kindergarten
- Dance: ballet, tap, jazz and jazz/pom, lyrical jazz, hip hop for high schoolers, and Senior Dance
- Gymnastics: gymnastics, floor gymnastics, boys' gymnastics, and the advanced Mat Mystics and Tumbleweeds programs
- Acro, baton twirling and SportAerobics for older and more experienced students
Advanced levels need instructor approval, which keeps each class at a pace students can handle safely. At Accident Elementary the studio offers gymnastics and jazz for elementary grades.
A Studio With Competitive Roots
Owner Brenda Brosnihan studied health and physical education at Frostburg State University and was Reebok National Aerobic Champion from 1986 to 1988. She coached eight consecutive national youth sportaerobic championship teams, and in 2003 her junior team won the World Sportaerobic Championships. Today she leads a team of instructors listed on the studio website. Students in grades 4 to 12 can try out for Boundless Energy, the studio's performance group, which offers travel and performance opportunities, with team selection announced after the Autumn Glory festival.
