About
Broken Road Associates is a nonprofit in Oakland that supports babies in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units (NICUs and PICUs) and the parents and caregivers at their side. Its mission is to "enhance the quality of life for babies and caregivers during the road to recovery," and it works out of an office at 317 East Oak Street, Suite One in Oakland.
A Mission Rooted in One Family's Story
The organization was started by Bill and Brittany German after their daughter, Rilynn, spent several days in a NICU. That experience shaped its focus: offering support and understanding from parents who have been through the same situation, so families with a baby in intensive care feel less alone. Broken Road Associates received 501(c)(3) status in late 2012 and Maryland exempt-organization status in early 2013, so donations are tax deductible.
Ways to Help
The group relies on community support and lists several simple ways to pitch in:
- Volunteer at one of its local events and fundraisers
- Make a one-time donation online through PayPal
- Donate gas cards or VISA gift cards for families staying in the NICU
- Donate receiving blankets or 4x6 photo albums
- Join Broken Road Associates as a member
It also runs named projects, Project: Vision and Project: Comfy Sheets, and takes part in Garrett County Gives. If you want to give items or time, reach out by phone or email first so the team can tell you what is needed most right now.
