Caretake Services

Caretake Services is a septic tank pumping and maintenance service for Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County. It now runs as a division of Rush Services of McHenry. Caretake was incorporated in 1978 and pumped and located septic systems in Garrett County for more than 40 years as a Savage family business. Rush Services acquired it and added septic work to its plumbing, electrical and HVAC services. Billy Savage, the technician longtime customers know, still runs the service with the support of Rush Services' fleet.

Septic Services

Caretake works for homes, lake properties, rental cabins and vacation rentals, restaurants, farms and commercial sites. Its published services include:

• Septic tank pumping and cleaning, including emergency pumping
• Holding tank pumping
• Lift station pumping and maintenance
• Grease trap cleaning
• Real estate septic inspections, baffle checks and system health assessments
• Septic tank locating
• Riser and lid installation or replacement, so the tank access point is protected and easy to reach
• Smoke testing where required

Sewage and septic waste is disposed of under state and federal rules, at certified treatment facilities run by the Garrett County Department of Public Utilities. Caretake says most tanks need pumping every two to five years, depending on system size and household water use, and rental properties and lake homes may need it more often.

Service Area

The service covers Deep Creek Lake, McHenry, Oakland, Grantsville, Accident and the rest of Garrett County. It also reaches Preston, Monongalia and Tucker Counties in West Virginia and the Farmington, Chalk Hill and Addison area of Pennsylvania. The Caretake phone line still takes septic calls, including emergencies.
