Chessie Federal Credit Union is a member-owned credit union headquartered in Cumberland, Maryland, with its corporate office on Commerce Drive. It has eight branch locations across Cumberland, LaVale and Frostburg in Maryland and Grafton and Keyser in West Virginia, and as of 2025 it served 34,000 members.
The credit union began in 1948, when nine men in Cumberland formed the Cumberland B&O Employees Federal Credit Union and received a federal charter. In 1973 it became Chessie Employees Federal Credit Union, following the C&O railroad's renaming as the Chessie System. It took the name Chessie Federal Credit Union in 1998. Over the years it merged with Sacred Heart Hospital Federal Credit Union, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 27 Federal Credit Union, Al-Gar Federal Credit Union in 2020 and Kelco Federal Credit Union in 2021, which added a branch on Greene Street in downtown Cumberland.
For personal members, Chessie offers checking, savings, club accounts for kids, holidays and vacations, money market accounts, share certificates and IRAs, along with mortgage, home equity, lot, auto, motorcycle, boat and ATV, student and personal loans and a Visa credit card. Business members can use business checking and savings, business term loans and lines of credit, commercial real estate loans and merchant card services. Online banking, a mobile app with mobile deposit and the TellerPhone service are available.
