Christmas Chalet is a year-round Christmas shop on Garrett Highway (Route 219) at Deep Creek Lake, at 19895 Garrett Hwy in Oakland. It's the place to go for ornaments, trees, lights, village collectibles and holiday decor, whether you're a collector adding to a display or a visitor who wants a Deep Creek keepsake for the tree.

Ornaments, Villages and Collectibles

The shop keeps Christmas on the shelves in every season, so you can shop for the holidays in July as easily as in December. Here's what you'll find:

• Ornaments of every kind, including Old World Christmas glass ornaments, Deep Creek Lake ornaments and black bear designs
• Personalized ornaments, which the staff can personalize for you in the store
• Department 56 villages and accessories, plus Snowbabies
• Jim Shore collectibles and the Nola Watkins collection of Deep Creek Lake ornaments and keepsakes
• More than 60 themed Christmas trees on display, along with trees, novelty lights and candles to take home
• Seasonal gifts and home decor, from blankets and yard and home flags to Kedzie bags, jewelry and gifts for pet lovers

A Family Shop Since 1996

Christmas Chalet opened in 1996 as the vision of the late Jan Shafer, who started with a small corner shop inside Englander's Pharmacy in Oakland. Jan and her husband, Gary, later moved the business to its home on Garrett Highway, where it has now been for more than 25 years, and the shop marked its 30th anniversary in 2026. The staff, who call themselves the elves, can help you track down a particular piece or choose a gift.

Next Door to the Tourist Trap

Christmas Chalet shares its address with its sister store, the Tourist Trap, which the Shafer family has owned since 2013. Pop next door for Deep Creek Lake t-shirts, glassware and souvenirs, then come back for an ornament to remember the trip.
