Circle R Ranch is a family horse ranch at 4151 Sand Flat Rd in Oakland, about seven miles from McHenry and close to Deep Creek Lake. It offers trail rides, pony rides, hayrides and winter sleigh rides for families and groups visiting the lake area, with something suited to most ages.
Rides for Every Age
Trail rides at Circle R are private, so your group rides together through the rolling hills and streams around the ranch. Younger children who are not ready for the trail can take a hand-led pony ride; the ranch's options range from short pony trips for little ones up to hour-long trail rides, which makes it easy to plan an outing when your group includes both kids and adults. You can also take a barn tour to meet and pet the horses.

Sleigh Rides in Winter
When there is enough snow, the ranch runs horse-drawn sleigh rides. Each sleigh ride is private, whether it is for a couple or a larger group, and a second sleigh can be added for bigger parties. Winter rides depend on the weather, so it pays to call ahead.
Finding the Ranch
From Garrett Highway (US 219), head south about two miles past the Glendale Road intersection, turn left onto Sand Flat Road and go about a quarter mile; the ranch is on the right. Circle R is also listed in Garrett County's Farms & Foods agritourism directory.
