About
The Circuit Court for Garrett County Clerk's Office is where county residents file court cases and record land documents. It's in Room 109 of the Garrett County Courthouse at 203 South 4th Street in downtown Oakland, and it serves everyone from people involved in a court case to new homeowners, couples planning a wedding and newly appointed notaries.
What the Clerk's Office Handles
The office files, processes and keeps the records for civil, criminal and juvenile cases, and it handles much more that touches everyday life:
- Recording deeds, mortgages, plats and other land records
- Issuing marriage licenses and business licenses
- Performing civil wedding ceremonies
- Commissioning notaries public and administering oaths to county officials
- Judicial records requests, case search help, expungement information and family services
A Landmark Courthouse
The courthouse itself is worth a look. Designed by architect James Riely Gordon and completed in 1907–1908, the three-story Classical Revival building has a central rotunda topped by a dome. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and is part of the Oakland Historic District.
Before you head over, check the Maryland Courts website for the fee schedule and any weather or holiday closures, or call the Clerk's Office with your question.
