Copper Kettle Popcorn Factory

Copper Kettle Popcorn Factory is a popcorn and candy shop on 20294 Garrett Hwy at Deep Creek Lake, across the parking lot from its sister shop, Lakeside Creamery. It makes kettle corn, caramel corn and specialty flavors, plus fudge and chocolates, so it's an easy place to pick up a snack for the lake house or a treat to send home.

The shop was started by Bill Meagher, who also founded Lakeside Creamery. He grew up loving the popcorn on the Ocean City boardwalk, and a friend from the Fisher's popcorn family encouraged him to open a popcorn shop at the lake and taught him the basics. The business began with just two cases of caramel corn; Bill later traveled to Pennsylvania to learn kettle corn and bought a copper kettle. Today most of the corn is popped in a large copper kettle on an open display deck where you can watch, and the caramel is cooked in-house and stirred as it cools so it stays in crisp, small nuggets. Each team member initials the bags from their batch.

Flavors, Fudge and Chocolates

• Popcorn: kettle corn, caramel corn in resealable tubs, and flavors such as cheddar, white cheddar, Old Bay, Cajun, jalapeño, buffalo cheddar, ranch, pizza and salt and vinegar
• Fudge: classics like chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla and maple nut, plus rotating specialty and seasonal flavors, sold by weight so you can mix
• Chocolates and candies: truffles, turtles, nonpareils, almond bark, chocolate-covered pretzels and chocolate-dipped Oreos and Ritz crackers, with sugar-free options

Bring your empty caramel corn tub back for a refill, and call the shop about gift tins and delivery if you'd like to send treats to someone for the holidays.
