Cosmic Studios

Cosmic Studios is a family-owned cheer, gymnastics and dance studio in Oakland, at 221 South Third Street, offering classes for babies and toddlers through teens and adults. No previous experience is needed, and the studio welcomes every skill level, including students with special needs.

Cheer, Gymnastics, Dance and Play

Classes are grouped into five areas, so you can mix and match:

• Cheer: mini cheer, performance cheer and competition cheer
• Gymnastics: tumbling plus beginner, intermediate and advanced classes
• Dance: ballet technique, little lyrical, advanced lyrical, and beginner and advanced hip-hop, with a jazz class added this year
• Fitness: open gym and dance fitness/Zumba
• Play: sessions for babies, toddlers and friends with special needs, plus a new indoor play area

The studio runs competitive teams, local performance teams, and both recital and non-recital classes, along with private lessons. Its training space includes a spring floor, gymnastics mats, beams and bars.

A Family Studio Since 2021

Cosmic was founded in 2021 by owner Natalie Hooks, who had wanted her own studio since childhood and started out with her family and, in the studio's words, "nothing but a gym mat and a heart to serve our community." Her mother and siblings co-own and coach. The studio sponsors students who might not otherwise be able to take part and brings cheer to nursing homes, hospitals and other outreach programs.

Camps and Parties

In summer, Cosmic runs day camps open to the public, with games, music and dancing, open gym, crafts and snacks; campers bring a packed lunch and water bottle. The space can also be rented for birthday parties, field trips, showers, reunions and homecoming or prom get-ready parties.

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothes, pull your hair back and bring a water bottle; there is a fountain and fridge on site.
