About
Deep Creek Baptist Church is a gospel-centered Baptist congregation at 19841 Garrett Highway in the Deep Creek Lake corridor of Oakland; the church notes it sits across the street from Uno's Pizzeria. Calling itself "the light by the lake," it welcomes visitors and lake guests to Sunday worship alongside its regular members.
What to Expect on Sunday
Sunday worship runs about an hour and a quarter. The congregation sings a mix of hymns, modern songs and psalms, accompanied by guitar, piano and sometimes organ, with the emphasis on the voices of the people rather than a stage band. Families are encouraged to sit together, and an unstaffed nursery at the back of the sanctuary is there for parents who need a moment with little ones.
Pastor Dave Helton leads the church, and a sermon archive on the website lets you hear the preaching before you visit.
Beliefs and Community
The church's core beliefs centre on one God in three persons, Scripture and Jesus Christ as the way God reveals himself, and salvation as a free gift received by faith in Christ alone. Its mission is the Great Commission (to make disciples of all nations), and its vision is a community of genuine believers and a town changed by the gospel. During the week, members meet in bi-weekly growth groups at the church, and newcomers are invited to ask about joining one.
If you're staying at the lake and looking for a place to worship, the church is right on Route 219 and easy to find.
