Deep Creek Sandwich Shop is a sub and sandwich counter at 21339 Garrett Hwy in Oakland, next to High Mountain Sports. It makes cold deli subs, toasted hot sandwiches and hot dogs in 6-inch and 12-inch sizes, which makes it a handy lunch stop on the way to or from the lake.

Sandwiches With Local Names

The shop calls itself a "Deep Creek 101" eat-and-learn spot, celebrating the area's heritage of family, recreation and food, and the menu follows the theme with names like Power Plant, Glen Haven, Thayers Barn, Savage River Beef and Red Run. A few examples:

• Power Plant: salami, pepperoni, ham, turkey and roast beef
• Cabin Lodge: rotisserie chicken, bacon and cheddar, toasted
• Trading Post: grilled buffalo chicken with mozzarella, toasted
• Stone Tavern: steak, mozzarella, green peppers and onions
• Red Run: meatballs in marinara with mozzarella, toasted

Kids, Sides and Ordering Ahead

Kids get the Minnow Meals, including a child-size sub with a side and milk or a juice box, and there's a kids' hot dog meal too. Round out an order with chips, cookies and Coke fountain or bottled drinks, or make it a meal deal. You can order online through the shop's Clover menu, and the Clover app lets you order ahead and earn rewards.
