Deep Creek Shop 'n Save

Deep Creek Shop 'n Save is a full-service supermarket in the Market Square plaza at 24586 Garrett Hwy in McHenry, on the main corridor along Deep Creek Lake. Locally known as Deep Creek Shop 'n Save Fresh, it serves year-round residents and is a convenient place to stock a vacation rental when you arrive at the lake.

Departments Under One Roof

Alongside everyday groceries, produce and household basics, the store runs several counters that make it more than a quick-stop market:

• An old-fashioned butcher shop with packaged meats and special cut orders
• A fresh seafood department with items such as shrimp, crab legs, mussels, clams and lobster
• A deli with Boar's Head meats and cheeses, made-to-order sandwiches, prepared salads and sides, plus a hot bar with fried and rotisserie chicken
• Organic and local produce, and a gourmet section with gluten-free items, specialty cheeses, sauces, oils and pastas
• Last-minute vacation items such as coolers, batteries, sunscreen and health and beauty products

The in-store bakery is run by Mountain Flour Bakery, a sister business in the same plaza that makes custom and special-occasion cakes, wedding cakes, cookie trays, breads, muffins and donuts.

Party Trays, Delivery and Local History

The store has offered party trays (deli meats and cheeses, fried chicken, wraps, sandwich rings, fruit and vegetable trays), custom gift baskets and delivery around the area, which is useful for family reunions and big rental groups; call ahead to confirm current options. It opened in 1997, founded by local builder Hugh Umbel, and was later sold to Ray Schurg, a former employee and co-owner of the Grantsville Shop 'n Save.
