About
Deer Park Town Hall is the office of the Town of Deer Park, one of Garrett County's small incorporated towns, at 100 Church St in Deer Park, east of Mountain Lake Park along MD Route 135. It is where the town's elected Mayor and Town Council meet and where residents go for town business.
What Happens Here
The Town of Deer Park has been incorporated since 1884 and is governed by a Mayor and Town Council elected to four-year terms, with elections held in May. Council meetings are held at Deer Park Town Hall once a month in the evening. The town clerk-treasurer handles day-to-day town business, and because the town does not publish its own website, you reach the office by phone or email.
A Railroad Resort Town
Deer Park grew up with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The B&O built the Deer Park Hotel, which opened on July 4, 1873, as a mountaintop summer resort with guest cottages, and drew visitors including Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Harrison and Grover Cleveland, who spent his honeymoon there with Frances Folsom Cleveland in June 1886. The hotel declined after the 1929 crash and was later razed, but a few of its cottages and a historical marker remain. The town also gave its name to Deer Park spring water, which the B&O served in its dining cars from around 1905.
If you have a question about town business, call or email ahead so the right person is there when you stop by.
