About
Divine Hope Church is an Assemblies of God congregation at 2655 Maryland Hwy in Oakland, serving Garrett County families with Sunday worship, classes for every age and hands-on community outreach. Its tagline, "Hope for a Hurting World," sums up a church that puts a lot of energy into serving neighbors.
From Independent Start to a New Home
Divine Hope formed on January 18, 2009 as an independent congregation, and its members later voted to become a local assembly of the Assemblies of God, in fellowship with the General Council and the Potomac Ministry Network. In August 2026 the church moved from Weber Road into a larger building on Maryland Highway, with a sanctuary, dedicated classrooms for toddlers through teens, a kitchen and a large-group room for kids. The church sets aside the first tenth of its offerings for missions and outreach.
Ministries and Outreach
- Promiseland Sunday school for toddlers through 5th grade, and Souled Out Sunday school for middle and high schoolers
- Inside Out youth group, with outings like corn mazes and bowling
- A community soup kitchen open to everyone, with a changing menu
- Ladies of Faith women's ministry, small groups and one-on-one care
- Vacation Bible School in summer, Trunk or Treat in the fall and a Christmas dinner
Each June the Divine HOPE Missionary Team takes on mission work; in 2026 it stayed close to home, installing windows and rebuilding a walkway for an Oakland family.
If you're new, the church's website has its worship page, calendar and a live stream so you can get a feel for things before you visit.
