About
Englander's Antiques & Grill is an antique mall with an old-time grill and soda fountain inside, at 205 E Alder St on the corner of Second and Alder Streets in downtown Oakland. It's a breakfast-and-lunch stop where you can sit at the counter for a meal and then browse the aisles, and it has been serving Garrett County since 1946.
Breakfast and Lunch at the Counter
The lunch counter has a retro diner feel, with counter stools plus tables and booths. Buckwheat cakes, a Garrett County favorite, are a signature at breakfast alongside waffles and egg dishes. At lunch you'll find a homemade vegetable soup and diner sides such as baked beans, and the soda fountain turns out milkshakes. For dessert, look for the vanilla pound cake and peanut butter cheesecake. Specials are posted on its Facebook page, and reservations are accepted for groups.
Antiques Under the Same Roof
The antique mall covers about 6,000 square feet, with china, furniture, lamps, heirloom jewelry, collectibles and handcrafted toys. Having the shop and the grill together makes Englander's an easy anchor for a day of antiquing in Oakland: eat first, then take your time looking around.
Parking is usually easy along East Alder Street, so come hungry and leave time to browse.
