About

Evergreen Heritage Center is a heritage, conservation and outdoor education center in Mt. Savage, Maryland, operated by the Evergreen Heritage Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 2008. The foundation works with community members to preserve local history, conserve the environment and provide hands-on educational opportunities in an outdoor classroom setting.

Heritage programs center on three museums: a farmhouse museum, a barn and a 100-year-old coal mining camp, along with a blacksmith shop, an 1822 kitchen and garden, a coal trail and a mine opening. Education programs include school field trips, summer camps and workshops for all ages.

Conservation work covers nature and hiking trails, sustainable agriculture and a native plant nursery that sells plants, trees, shrubs and flowers native to western Maryland, as well as forest garden and garden kits. In partnership with Maryland DNR and Reynwood Forest Management, Evergreen offers hands-on forestry training for high school and college students, including Real World Forestry, Forestry 101 and AmeriCorps NCCC programs.

The grounds also serve as an event venue for weddings and gatherings, accommodating 150 to 170 guests with a 1,000-square-foot dance area and a pond with a dock. The foundation reports serving 18,500 people annually.
