About
Garrett College is Garrett County's two-year public community college, with its main campus at 687 Mosser Road in McHenry, above Deep Creek Lake. It serves both recent high school graduates and adults coming back to school, with associate degrees, certificates and non-credit training under one roof.
Programs and Pathways
The college offers associate degrees for students who plan to transfer to a four-year school and for those heading straight into a career, along with credit certificates in specialty fields. Program areas include business, pre-allied health, science and mathematics, computer science, information technology and cybersecurity, addictions counseling, the arts, wildlife and outdoor studies. Transfer agreements with regional universities can make the move to a bachelor's degree smoother.
Its Continuing Education & Workforce Development division runs non-credit courses and GED preparation for people who want a new skill without enrolling in a degree program.
A County College Since 1966
The school was founded in 1966 as Garrett Community College and opened on the McHenry campus in 1971; it took the name Garrett College in 2002. The campus has grown to include a STEM building, a Performing Arts Center, the Community Aquatic & Recreation Complex (CARC) with its pool and gym, a Library & Learning Commons, residence halls and the Laker Café. Its Garrett Lakers teams compete in the NJCAA.
Beyond McHenry, the college runs outreach centers in Oakland, Grantsville and Accident, so some classes are closer to home for students across the county.
