About
Garrett College Library & Learning Commons is the library and study space on the Garrett College campus at 687 Mosser Rd, McHenry, MD 21541. It serves the college's students, faculty and staff, and Garrett County residents can register to borrow materials too.
Who Can Borrow
Borrowing is open to Garrett College students, staff and faculty and to residents of Garrett County, Maryland. You register at the Circulation Desk, and books and audiobooks go out for three weeks. The library is fine-free: you're only charged if something isn't returned. Renewals can be handled at the desk, by phone or by email, and you can place a hold on an item that's checked out.
Collections and Research Help
The catalog covers books, ebooks, audiobooks and other media, and the library adds new-book and staff-pick lists. Students can use full-text research databases from off campus with their college login. Librarians offer research help in person or through an online "Ask Us" chat, and subject guides walk you through finding articles and formatting citations. Interlibrary loan and special collections are available as well.
Study Spaces and Community Events
Four group study rooms, each with a computer, scanner and whiteboard, can be reserved at the desk or by phone, and eight laptops can be checked out for use inside the library. Community members can buy print cards at the desk. The library also runs the Get Lit Book Club and hosts the Joan Crawford Lecture Series, which is free and open to the public and named for a former Garrett College educator.
If you live in the county and want a quiet place to read or research near Deep Creek Lake, stop at the Circulation Desk to get set up.
