About
The Garrett County Development Corporation is a private 501(c)(6) nonprofit set up under Maryland law to help develop and strengthen business prosperity and the economic well-being of Garrett County. Unpaid volunteers run it, drawn from the local business community and leading county organizations.
History
The Garrett County Committee on Economic Development formed the corporation at its August 11, 1961 meeting and gave it responsibility for all economic development activities in the county. It was reorganized through the county's Community Action Committee in 1970. In 1983 the county created its own Department of Economic Development, and since then the corporation has been a stand-alone private nonprofit.
Structure and projects
A seven-member Board of Directors votes on the corporation's business, with fourteen advisory members representing key stakeholders around the county. The corporation is taking applications from homeowners for Hemlock Grove in Grantsville, Garrett County's first attainable housing project. It will have 63 townhomes and single-family homes for purchase, and details are at garrettcountyliving.com.
