Garrett County Health Department

Garrett County Health Department is the public health agency for Garrett County, serving roughly 28,000 residents from its main office at 1025 Memorial Drive in Oakland and a second office in Grantsville. It offers clinical care, community programs and environmental health services for families, seniors and anyone living, working or vacationing in the county.

Services for Residents

• Personal health: immunizations, family planning, cancer screening programs, communicable disease follow-up and an STD clinic
• Dental care
• Behavioral health: mental health and substance use disorder programs
• Home Health: skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy, home health aides and medical social services
• Early care programs such as Healthy Families Garrett County, child safety seats, childbirth classes and lactation support, plus WIC
• Environmental Health: wells, septic and perc tests, food-service inspections, burn permits and radon
• Vital records, including birth certificates, and Medical Assistance Transportation

Community and Outreach

Beyond its clinics, the department runs education and outreach programs including overdose response training, tobacco cessation through Quit Now, bike safety, after-school and youth programs, and worksite wellness. It also coordinates emergency preparedness, where volunteers can register with Maryland Responds, and publishes a Community Health Assessment and annual health reports. The department is accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board.
