About

Garrett County Lighthouse is a nonprofit behavioral health organisation at 20 E. Oak Street in downtown Oakland, providing psychiatric rehabilitation and residential programs for Garrett County residents recovering from serious and persistent mental illness. It operates as a division of Archway Station, Inc., is CARF accredited, and has served the county since 1992.

Programs Offered

  • Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP): an on-site day program with meals, plus off-site support, local transportation, life-skills classes (self-care, money management, housing, employment), case management, optional medication monitoring, and help applying for disability benefits through SOAR-trained coordinators.
  • Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRP): two homes in the community where clients build independent-living skills such as budgeting, cooking and laundry, with the goal of moving into their own housing.
  • Youghiogheny Youth Club: an adolescent PRP with after-school and summer sessions focused on coping, school attendance, social skills and family relationships.
  • Safe Harbor: residential crisis and respite services designed to help people avoid a psychiatric inpatient admission, also offered in Allegany County.

How Referrals Work

Lighthouse programs are referral-based. A licensed professional who is treating the person completes the referral, and adult clients must be Garrett County residents engaged in outpatient mental health treatment; referral forms are posted on the website. Admitted PRP clients have phone access to on-call crisis support around the clock. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988, or call 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Families and clinicians can call the Oak Street office to ask which program fits and how to start a referral.
