Garrett County Main Landfill

Garrett County Main Landfill is the county landfill and the office of the Garrett County Solid Waste & Recycling Division, located off Oakland Sang Run Road 3.5 miles north of Oakland. It is open to all county residents, businesses, municipalities, visitors and private haulers with waste generated in Garrett County.

What the Landfill Takes

The landfill accepts waste that the six rural collection sites do not, for a fee by weight at the scales: large furniture loads and house cleanouts, construction debris, commercial waste, tires, and non-refrigerant appliances. Appliances with Freon, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, are taken here only. Residents with a county permit can also drop off household trash.

Recycling and Permits

The landfill takes every material on the county recycling list, plus brush, Christmas trees (recycled with DNR Fisheries as fish habitat), yard waste for composting, and fluorescent bulbs and lamps. Businesses and municipalities may use the free recycling boxes. Residential refuse permits and bag and bulk item stickers are sold at the main office here, which also answers questions about rates.
