Garrett County Public Works – Utilities Division

The Garrett County Public Works – Utilities Division runs the county's public water and sewer systems from its office at 2008 Maryland Highway between Oakland and Mountain Lake Park. If your home, rental or business is on county water or sewer, this is the office for billing questions, new connections and service problems, from Deep Creek Lake to Friendsville and Kitzmiller.

What the Utilities Division Handles

The division covers county water and sewer service from planning to the monthly bill. Its responsibilities include:

• Water and sewer billing, with online payment and autopay through the county's Citizen Connect portal
• Water systems, including the Friendsville and Kitzmiller systems, with published rate schedules and a fluoride statement
• Sewer systems, rate schedules, grinder pump requirements and sewer overflow reports
• A Water Quality Laboratory, which publishes a fee schedule and annual consumer confidence reports
• Sewer and garbage rates for Loch Lynn Heights and Mountain Lake Park
• Connection fees, equivalent residential unit (ERU) allocations and water and sewer master planning, including the mandatory-connection policy for the McHenry water system

A County Service Since 1962

The division began as the Garrett County Sanitary District, Inc., incorporated in 1962. The Board of County Commissioners became its governing body in April 2003, and it now operates as the Utilities Division of the Department of Public Works.

Mail water and sewer payments to 203 S. Fourth Street, Room 107A, in Oakland; payments for lab work, tap fees and other charges go to the Maryland Highway office.
