Garrett County Roads Division

The Garrett County Roads Division is the county public works office that builds and maintains Garrett County's county-owned roads and bridges. Its main office is in 2008 Maryland Highway, Suite 3 in Mountain Lake Park. It is the place to contact about a pothole, a blocked culvert, a missing sign or a road entrance permit on a county road.

Roads, Bridges and Snow

The division looks after about 680 miles of county roads and 192 bridges and small structures. Its construction work includes paving, tar and chipping, bridge construction, culvert pipe replacement, road widening and realignment, and bank sloping. Its routine maintenance covers:

• Roadway patching and snow removal
• Sign design and placement
• Mowing, tree trimming and brush cutting
• Storm debris removal and bridge maintenance

Day-to-day work runs out of three road maintenance garages in Accident, Grantsville and Oakland, which helps crews reach every corner of a large mountain county in winter.

Reporting a Problem and Getting Permits

You can report a road problem through the county's online Report a Problem form, or call or email the main office. If you are building a new driveway or entrance onto a county road, the division handles entrance permits. Permit applications and inspection scheduling run through the county's Citizen Connect system. State routes such as US 219 and MD 135 are not county roads, so those issues go to the Maryland State Highway Administration instead.
