About
Garrett Transit Service is Garrett County's public transportation system, run as a department of the nonprofit Garrett County Community Action Committee. It provides shared-ride, door-to-door service across the county for residents and visitors, with its office at 225 Francis Sanders Dr W.
How the Service Works
Garrett Transit Service is a demand-response system, which means there are no fixed bus routes to wait for: you call ahead to book a ride, and a bus or van picks you up and drops you at your destination, sharing the trip with other riders when it can. Drivers help riders on and off, every vehicle can accommodate wheelchairs, and drivers hold commercial licenses and first aid training. Rides are offered on a space-available basis, so booking early matters.
Who It Helps
The service connects people to jobs, medical appointments, shopping and other essential errands, and it is especially important for seniors, people with disabilities and families without a reliable car. Riders who need a regular ride to work or to an appointment can ask dispatch for a standing order, so the trip doesn't have to be booked each time. Trips to other parts of Maryland and to neighbouring West Virginia are also available by appointment.
Call ahead for local trips and give several business days' notice for any out-of-county ride.
