About

Glades Park is a Town of Oakland park at 10 Spruce Lane, with a playground, basketball and pickleball courts, a junior fishing pond and a rentable pavilion. It is the end point of the town's paved Oakland Heritage Trail, which makes it a handy base for families, walkers and groups planning a get-together.

Things to Do at the Park

  • Playground for younger kids, next to the courts and pond
  • Basketball and pickleball courts
  • Fishing pond reserved for anglers 15 and under and for people with disabilities, so young and new anglers get a calm spot of their own
  • Glades Park Loop Path, a paved one-mile loop with views of the pond, playground and courts, plus outdoor exercise equipment along the way

Walking Trails That Start Here

The Oakland Heritage Trail is a paved, lit, one-mile path that runs from the Town Parking Lot on South 1st Street, at the Asa McCain Walking Bridge, past Washington Spring to Glades Park. You can also pick up the gravel 88 Bridge Trail from the loop path on Liberty Street. It runs 0.7 miles each way to the site of the 88 Bridge and Civil War blockhouses, with five historical markers about the B&O Railroad and the Civil War in Garrett County. The Fort Alice Trailhead on Liberty Street has no parking, so the town asks you to park at Glades Park.

Renting the Glades Pavilion

The 120-seat Glades Pavilion has a full kitchen, private bathrooms and electric outlets, with a dedicated parking lot nearby. Because it sits right beside the courts, playground and pond, it works well for birthday parties and reunions where kids want to play while adults gather. Reservations are made online through the town's booking page, and the Town of Oakland office can answer questions.

Pack a fishing rod or your walking shoes and make an afternoon of it.
