About
Grace Reformed Church is a congregation in the Reformed tradition that meets in its building at 19 S 5th St in downtown Oakland. Founded in 1997, it gathers on Sundays for adult Sunday School followed by a worship service of singing, prayer and preaching, and it welcomes anyone who wants to hear a clear, Christ-centred message.
What the Church Believes
Grace Reformed holds to New Covenant Theology, which places Jesus Christ at the centre and climax of God's plan and reads the Old Testament in the light of the New. The church sums up its message as "Christ and Him crucified" from 1 Corinthians 2:2, teaching that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone and His death on the cross. Its website includes short explanations of the gospel, Reformed theology and New Covenant Theology if you want to read more before visiting.
Sunday School, Sermons and Resources
The adult Sunday School class works through book-length studies; it has recently been going through R.C. Sproul's "From Dust to Glory" from Ligonier Ministries. Pastor Bob Bonser has led worship and study at the church for more than 25 years. Between Sundays, the website offers current and archived sermons, key memory verses, book recommendations, a blog and a photo gallery, which makes it a handy way to get a feel for the preaching.
If you have questions about visiting, the church is happy to hear from you by phone or email.
