High Mountain Sports

High Mountain Sports is a four-season outdoor and sporting goods shop at 21327 Garrett Hwy in Oakland, on the Garrett Highway corridor at Deep Creek Lake. It sells and rents gear for snow, water and trail, and in summer it also runs pontoon boat tours on the lake. Whether you're a local or here for a lake week, it's a one-stop place to get outfitted.

What You'll Find in the Store

The shop carries gear for nearly every season at the lake:

• Snow sports: downhill and cross-country skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, snowshoes, helmets and protective gear
• Bikes: mountain, road/gravel, multi-sport, kids' bikes and e-bikes, plus parts, accessories and helmets
• Water sports: kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, tubes, wakeboards, water skis, wake surfers, life jackets, wetsuits and tow ropes
• Clothing and footwear: men's, women's and youth lines, including bike, athletic, rainwear and winter apparel, boots, sandals and water shoes
• More: skateboards and longboards, camping and outdoor gear, luggage, hydration, eyewear and electronics

Brands on its list include Trek, Specialized, Shimano, Salomon, Rossignol, Völkl, Atomic, Patagonia, The North Face, Oakley and Smith. The shop also handles tune-ups for skis, snowboards and bikes, and hosts an annual Ski and Snowboard Swap, which is a handy way to find used gear or pass along what the kids have outgrown.

Rentals, Dock Slips and Lake Tours

In summer you can rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, tubes and bikes here, so you don't have to haul your own gear to the lake. High Mountain Sports also rents dock slips on Deep Creek Lake and offers pontoon boat tours, a relaxed way for visitors to see the lake from the water. Rental and tour details are on the website.

In winter, ski and snowboard rentals move to its sister listing, High Mountain Sports Rental on Sang Run Road, along the access road to Wisp Resort, where you can rent downhill skis, snowboards, cross-country skis and snowshoes.
