About

Holyrood Meadery & Youghiogheny Cider House @ Weber's Crossing is a small-batch cidery and meadery on the historic Weber family orchard property near Oakland, in southern Garrett County. It makes gluten-free apple wines, ciders and cysers from its own estate-grown apples, and its winery near Oakland is open by appointment.

Ciders From Heirloom Orchards

The ciders are fermented with wild yeasts from the property's own apple trees and orchards, with no added preservatives and, with few exceptions, no added sulfites. The apples are organically raised, and the honey in the Ephphatha Cyser comes from the cidery's own bees. The Saint Nicholas of Myra ciders (Felicity, Perpetua and Tabitha) blend pressings of more than 28 apple varieties, nearly all North American or European heirlooms or cider apples, and the newer Saint Catherine of Alexandria Cider is a golden, dry still wine made from 16 varieties.

The Story of Weber's Crossing

Weber's Crossing is where old Gortner Road, later US 219, crossed the B&O railroad and the south branch of the Youghiogheny River between Oakland and Mountain Lake Park. Horticulturalist Henry Weber founded H. Weber & Sons there, and a flagstop depot served the business for roughly a century. The cidery sits up the road from the old crossing on the former home of Ralph E. Weber, where descendants of the family are restoring century-old orchards of heirloom and cider apples.
