J. Banks Design is an interior design firm based on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, working on hospitality, club and private residential interiors. A Firm Founded in 1986
In 1986 Joni Burden, then Joni Banks, bought the Hilton Head Island company Decorators Unlimited with help from a group of investors called The Melrose Group, and it became J. Banks Design. Its first commercial project was the Melrose Resort on Daufuskie Island, a bridgeless island. That job shaped the firm's problem-solving approach. Today it works coast to coast and abroad from its office at 35 Main Street on Hilton Head Island.
How the Firm Works
Each design team is led by a Principal Designer and backed by an in-house procurement and logistics department, so one firm can carry a project from concept through furnishing. Its portfolio includes resort and club projects such as Castello di Casole in Tuscany, Maravilla in Cabo San Lucas, One Steamboat Place in Colorado, Timbers Kauai, Timbers Kiawah and Doonbeg in Ireland. The firm reports a team of more than 50 employees.
