Karen Lockhart runs a private studio at 12 S. Third St., No. 3 in downtown Oakland, offering massage therapy, skin care, electrolysis and clinical hypnotherapy by appointment. Originally from Northern Virginia, she has a background in nursing and has been licensed in massage therapy for more than 20 years. The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the studio's grand opening in August 2024, after three years of practice in Cumberland.
Massage and Pain Management
Because she is a nurse first, Karen works with clients who are pre- or post-surgery or have other special needs. Her focus is pain management for acute injuries and chronic conditions, and her medical massage sessions combine far infrared heat, electric stimulation, ultrasound and topical analgesic with deep tissue and trigger point work. Cupping therapy is also available. As an alternative health care provider, she can give a detailed receipt for clients who want to use a flexible or health savings account or submit an out-of-network claim.
Skin Care and Electrolysis
Skin care services range from custom European-style facials to microneedling and chemical peels, using products made for her in North Carolina. She also offers electrolysis for permanent hair removal on every skin tone and hair color, with complimentary consultations, and a free review of the skin care products you already use. Men are welcome in the studio.
Hypnotherapy and Products
Clinical hypnotherapy sessions teach self-hypnosis for managing pain and changing habits. The studio also carries ladies' intimate care products made without synthetic dyes or fragrance. Karen works alone, so appointments are needed for services and product pickups, and texting is the best way to reach her.
