About
The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses is the local meeting place for Jehovah's Witnesses in the Oakland area. You'll find it at 325 Weber Rd in Oakland, and visitors are welcome at its meetings whether or not they are Witnesses.
What a Kingdom Hall Is
Jehovah's Witnesses call their places of worship Kingdom Halls, a name that dates to the 1930s and points to the Kingdom of God at the centre of their teaching. The halls are deliberately plain, with no altars, images or crosses, so attention stays on Bible teaching, and they are not used for social or commercial events. A typical hall has an auditorium with a platform for speakers, and many also have classrooms and a small library of Bible reference works.
What to Expect at a Meeting
Meetings centre on Bible study and talks. Each week includes a public talk on a Bible-based topic meant for members and newcomers alike, which makes it the natural meeting to try first. No collection plate is passed: the building and its upkeep are paid for by voluntary donations left in a donation box. A Garrett County church directory has listed both a North Oakland and a South Oakland congregation meeting in this hall on Weber Road, so more than one congregation may share the building.
Before You Go
Meeting days and times can change, so check the official meeting finder linked above for the current schedule before your first visit. If you're curious about what the Witnesses believe, the weekly public talk is a low-key way to see a meeting for yourself.
