About
Leo Martin Memorial Park is the Town of Mountain Lake Park's community park on G Street, just south of MD 135, home to the town splash pad. With a covered pavilion, restrooms, a round stage and a walking path, it is set up for families with young kids and for town gatherings.
The Splash Pad
The 1,650-square-foot splash pad has a slip-resistant surface and features that include a mushroom shower, a fire hydrant, a rain curtain, dumping buckets, water loops and 18 random ground jets. Water starts from a foot sensor and runs for about ten minutes at a time, so if it is quiet when you arrive, wait for the flow to stop and then step on the sensor. The system recirculates and is checked several times a day during the season by certified pool operators. Use is free. Water shoes are optional, water toys are allowed, towels are not provided, and an outdoor shower is there for rinsing off. The pad runs from late spring into early fall, and its features are taken down each fall.
Around the Park
Next to the splash pad is a covered pavilion with vending machines, which can be reserved through the town clerk; a rental does not close the splash pad to the public. A patio with picnic tables, restrooms, a drinking fountain and trash cans are close by, and the park also has a round stage and a walking path.
A Park With Local History
The park is named for Leo Martin, the town's mayor from 2001 to 2017. It stands on the site of the Bashford Amphitheater, which opened in 1900, and today it hosts much of the town's annual Victorian Chautauqua festival in July. The Ticket Office Museum is steps away, and the Bethel Center is across the street. The splash pad was built with Program Open Space and Community Parks and Playgrounds grants. Like all Mountain Lake Park parks, it is trash-free, so bring a bag and carry out what you bring.
Pack a towel and let the kids run through the rain curtain on a warm afternoon.
