About

The Maryland Division of Parole and Probation – Oakland Office is the state field office that supervises people on parole, probation and mandatory release in Garrett County. It is at 221 A South 3rd Street, Oakland, and the state lists it as the Oakland Field Office/DDMP, meaning it also runs the local Drinking Driver Monitor Program. People under supervision, their families and court and treatment partners deal with this office.

What the Division Does

The Division of Parole and Probation is part of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Its job is to supervise people in the community and make sure they meet the conditions set by the courts and the Parole Commission. Statewide, its work includes:

  • Supervising parolees, probationers and people on mandatory release
  • Pre-sentence investigations for the courts
  • Drinking driver monitoring
  • Home detention monitoring

Drinking Driver Monitor Program

The Drinking Driver Monitor Program is separate from criminal supervision and covers people charged with drunk or impaired driving, almost all of them referred by the courts. Monitors give breath tests, confirm attendance at treatment or self-help meetings, check employment, collect supervision fees and restitution, and report on compliance to the courts and the Motor Vehicle Administration. The program dates to 1984 and has been run by the Division since 1986.

If you have been ordered to report to this office, calling ahead is the simplest way to confirm what to bring.
