Mountain Fresh Farmers Market is a producer-only farmers market at the Mountain Fresh Pavilion, beside Rotary Park and the town parking lot on South First Street in downtown Oakland. The Mountain Fresh Producers Association runs it. This nonprofit group of farmers, artisans, cooks and bakers comes from western Maryland and northeastern West Virginia. It's the place to buy food and goods straight from the people who grew or made them.
What You'll Find
Every vendor has to make, bake or grow what they sell, so you're buying directly from the producer. Depending on the season, tables carry:
- Fresh produce, herbs, eggs and meats
- Baked goods, jams and jellies, honey and maple syrup
- Cut flowers, potted and bedding plants, and fall pumpkins and gourds
- Crafts, jewelry, soaps, soy candles and personal-care items
The vendor roster includes local names such as ALL Produce, Go Go Gelato, Sprinkles & Sourdough, Valley Farm Maple and Deep Creek Pretzel Company. Not every vendor comes to every market. The market's weekly email list tells you who'll be there and what's ready.
Seasons and the Pavilion
The main outdoor season runs from late spring through October. A winter and spring market follows on select dates at the same pavilion, and its garage doors can be closed on cold days. The town pavilion has picnic tables, and public restrooms are in the adjacent town parking lot. The association also hosts the Glorious Harvest Farmers Market & Craft Show at the pavilion during Oakland's Autumn Glory season.
Using SNAP and Other Benefits
The market accepts SNAP/EBT and matches SNAP purchases through the Maryland Market Money program. That stretches food dollars further on fresh, local food. It also takes Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks for WIC and senior participants, as well as eWIC fruit and vegetable benefits.
