About
Mountain Lake Independent Baptist Church is an independent Baptist congregation at 1005 Broadford Road in Oakland. The church calls itself Bible-believing and Bible-preaching, and it welcomes families looking for traditional worship, Sunday school for every age and a long list of outreach ministries in southern Garrett County.
What to Expect on a Sunday
Preaching is the centre of every service here, and the music follows suit: traditional hymns and songs by conservative writers, chosen to prepare hearts for the sermon. Sunday school offers a class for every member of the family, with the Bible as the text for all of them. Parents with little ones can use a staffed nursery during all services, including revivals and conferences, and King's Kids is a Sunday-morning children's church for ages 3 through 6th grade, with singing, Bible memorization, games and snacks. If you can't make it in person, the church posts sermon audio and a Facebook livestream on its website.
Ministries for Every Age
- Teens Alive – a midweek youth night with food, games and practical Bible lessons
- Master Clubs – a discipleship program for children built on what is preached from the pulpit
- Super Seniors – meals and activities for adults 55 and older
- Bus Ministry – Sunday school buses that pick up riders across southern and central Garrett County and into West Virginia
- Blankets for Babies – church women make blankets for newborns and visit new mothers
- Fingerprints Ministry – Scripture booklets printed in native languages for mission fields
A Voice on the Local Airwaves
Since 1999 the church has carried the Fundamental Broadcasting Network around the clock on Christian Radio 88.7 FM, offering Bible preaching, conservative music and family programming to listeners in the area. Pastor Dennis Leatherman, who has led the church since the mid-1990s, writes a pastor's blog on the website, and the church also runs annual mission trips and a faith-promise missions program.
If you're planning a first visit or want to know about the bus route near you, the church office is happy to help.
