Mountain Lake Park Town Hall is the town office for the Town of Mountain Lake Park, the incorporated town just outside Oakland in Garrett County. It is at 1007 Allegheny Drive, and it is where residents and property owners start zoning permit applications and handle other town business with the mayor and council's staff.
Zoning Permits Start Here
If you are planning a project on a property inside town limits, the application begins at Town Hall, where you submit the form and pay any town fees. The Garrett County Planning and Land Management Division then gives the permit its final review and approval, so allowing a little extra time is wise. Town Hall can tell you which projects need a permit under the town zoning ordinance before you start work.
How the Town Is Run
Mountain Lake Park is governed by a mayor and a six-member Town Council, with council members elected to two-year terms. The council oversees a Planning Commission, a Board of Zoning Appeals and a Personnel Committee, and the mayor appoints the town's Board of Supervisors of Elections with council consent. Town Hall is the place to ask about any of these bodies.
A Chautauqua Town
The town was founded in 1881 as Maryland's original Chautauqua resort community, laid out along the B&O Railroad and modelled on Chautauqua, New York. It was formally incorporated in 1931, and its Victorian-era history is still part of the town's identity.
