Mountaineer Custom Homes designs custom log and hybrid homes for Deep Creek Lake from its office at 23813 Garrett Hwy, Suite 5, in McHenry. It grew out of Mountaineer Log & Siding Company, the Frazee family's log home business, and today guides lot owners from first design through construction.

From the Frazee Family Sawmill

The company's roots are in the Frazee family's forest lands and sawmill in Western Maryland and West Virginia. In 1979 the mill in Bartow, West Virginia, added machinery to produce solid tongue-and-groove log wall components, and Mountaineer Log & Siding began selling them as complete log home packages. The company says more than 1,500 homes have been produced since then. Founder Karen Myers, a member of the Frazee family, retired from ownership in 2026 and remains a mentor to the team.

How a Project Works

Mountaineer custom designs each home around the features of your lot, from rustic to contemporary, and specializes in homes built to work as vacation rentals. Its packages use solid 8-by-6-inch logs, with log siding, paneling and other wood options to mix materials, plus Andersen 400 Series windows and doors. The process runs in steps:

• Bids from several approved builders, so you can choose one
• Contract review, then scheduling and project oversight through the build
