Oak Park Church of the Brethren

Oak Park Church of the Brethren is a Church of the Brethren congregation at 110 Church Lane, Mountain Lake Park, just outside Oakland. It offers Sunday worship, Sunday school for all ages and a set of hands-on ministries, and its website says plainly that all are welcome, families with young children included.

Worship and Families

Sunday worship takes place in the church sanctuary, led by Pastor Carl Fike. The church provides a nursery and Children's Church during the service, so parents of little ones can take part in worship knowing their kids are looked after nearby. Sunday school classes run for every age group. Through the year the calendar includes Vacation Bible School and an annual Christmas Program and Family Dinner. If you can't come inside, the church has broadcast its worship on 98.5 FM so you can listen from the parking lot, and Pastor Fike posts video messages on the church's Facebook page.

Ministries That Reach the Community

Oak Park describes its purpose in two parts: reaching people for the Kingdom of God, and helping believers grow toward "full maturity, unity and completeness." That shows up in practical ways:

• Food Pantry – food pick-ups for neighbours in need during church office hours
• Men's Breakfast – a monthly breakfast in the Fellowship Hall, open to all ages
• Prayer Shawl Group – members knit and crochet shawls to comfort people going through hard times; shawls are available on request

How the Church Is Run

The congregation is led by a Church Board, with Stewards, Nurture, Property and Witness commissions meeting through the year, in keeping with the Brethren tradition of shared, member-led church life. The church marks more than 60 years of ministry in the Mountain Lake Park area.

If you'd like to visit or need help from the food pantry, a quick call to the church office will point you in the right direction.
