About
Oakland Elks Lodge #2481 is Oakland's lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, listed by Elks national headquarters at 100 Elk St in Oakland. It is a fraternal and service organization for members, with a lodge lounge and kitchen, and it takes part in the Elks' national charity programs here in Garrett County.
What the Elks Do
The Elks are a national fraternal order built around community service. Through the Elks National Foundation, lodges like Oakland's take part in college scholarship programs and community investment grants that pay for local projects, and the national order runs youth programs such as the Hoop Shoot free-throw contest, drug awareness education and services for veterans. The Oakland lodge's page on elks.org links to its own scholarship winners and grant history.
At the Lodge
The lodge has a lounge with a kitchen serving food, and members hold regular lodge meetings twice a month. The lodge is part of the Maryland State Elks Association and its District 3840. Lounge access and lodge activities are mainly for members and their guests, so if you are interested in joining or attending an event, get in touch first.
